Medisoft Clinical Is a Complete EMR Solution

You may have seen the note on the Medisoft website that states that Medisoft Clinical is a complete EMR. This is not mere marketing hype. Medisoft Clinical has been certified by the U.S. government as a complete EMR, one of the qualifying conditions for physicians and medical practices that want to participate in the HHS meaningful use incentive programs. Participants in the incentive programs can earn more than $40,000 in bonus incentives over the course of several years. The HHS is offering the incentives to encourage medical practices to start using – and to increase their use of – existing digital recordkeeping and communications technology to help manage their records and patient care more efficiently. But what exactly is a complete EMR solution and what benefits does Medisoft EMR offer to you?
The federal government defines a complete EMR as one that has four elements: computerized orders for tests, reporting for test results, physician notes and computerized orders for prescriptions. The four of these together comprise complete electronic patient records. Medisoft Clinical combines the EMR with practice management software, including patient scheduling software, medical billing software and knowledge bases that help physicians make better diagnoses and medical decisions for their patients.
In 2005, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveyed doctors about their use of electronic patient records. They found that nearly 1 in 4 of the physicians surveyed reported that they use electronic records in their practice. Those in the Midwest and the West were more likely to use digital records than those in the Northeast, and those in metropolitan areas were more than twice as likely to use digital records as those outside metro areas. That was an increase of nearly 31 percent over those who reported using EMR solutions in 2001, but only 1 in 10 used an EMR system that includes all four of the basic functions required for a complete EMR, partly because of the expense and partly because of difficulty of converting existing medical records to electronic form. By 2012, thanks to the meaningful use incentives and the availability of EMR solutions like McKesson Medisoft, nearly 8 in 10 office-based physicians reported that they use electronic patient records in their practice, with 4 in 10 reporting that their EMR systems meet the basic standards for a complete EMR.
McKesson, the makers of Medisoft, address both of those problems with Medisoft Clinical. For years, McKesson Medisoft has been the EMR of choice for small medical practices. It includes all of the features used by major medical health systems at a price point that’s affordable for small offices and individual practices.
